Is a caravan holiday a cheaper alternative?

Is a caravan holiday a cheaper alternative?

According to my non-caravanning friends, they think using a caravan is a cheaper way of having a holiday. I on the other hand think it is far from cheap, so in this article let’s explore the options and see if caravanning is a great way of getting away on a budget.     However, right from the start we have a problem. We cannot realistically compare a week in Greece to a 7-day caravan holiday in Tenby. Apart from the weather difference here is my rationale: An all-inclusive holiday for a week in Lyttos Beach, Heraklion Are, in Crete, will cost £3,892* (including a child goes free...

When it doesn’t go quite right…

This is a story time blog, and it’s quite funny, so I thought I would share it with you. To put this story in context, I try to launch videos each Friday at 6am UK time. In order for this to happen the video must be filmed, edited and uploaded to YouTube by Thursday evening. In reality, I try to make sure that I have all this completed a few days before the deadline and to fit in with work commitments too. With that in mind, you will appreciate how fed up I was when I was still filming, had completed no editing on this video at 7pm the night before it’s due to be released, it...

Removing window scratches

Removing window scratches

Modern caravan and motorhome windows are made from acrylic. Which means they are light, can be made into any shape, have great thermal properties and can be tinted for improved privacy. Yeah, acrylic windows are great. Another thing they are great for is getting scratched. They are easily scuffed by overhanging vegetation on B roads, can be easily marked by rouge awning poles or scratched by incorrect cleaning practices. They are so prone to being scratched that there is an entire industry geared up to removing scratches from windows. This can be in the form of products, equipment or...

Bosch Fontus Pressure Washer

One of our very first videos showed how we clean the caravan. In that video I showed how we use some pump-up garden sprayers at the storage yard. At that time, we had no running water at the caravan, so we literally washed the caravan with liquid and equipment bought in from home. One of the first bits of top advice we shared was don’t use a pressure washer on a caravan. But, there is always a “however” and in this video I discuss pressure washers and caravans and give some top tips and advice on using a pressure washer with a caravan.       For me a pressure washer conjures...

Diamondbrite Leisure review

Up until now we have had a straightforward cleaning process on the outside of our caravan. Using techniques borrowed from the automotive industry and products designed specifically for the leisure industry we developed a regime that worked well.     We started with a snow foam, then a rinse, then a wash, then a rinse and then wipe down before some wax was applied and a final buff. It always made the caravan, bright and shiny, and for our Lunar that was a few years old, it always restored a youthful look to its exterior. It did however take some time to achieve a good result and was...

Caravanning : More than just freedom?

Caravanning : More than just freedom?

Its 17:53 and I’m strutting around the house with a beer and an aura of accomplishment. You see today I’ve been digging up the roots for two Hydrangea in our back garden. Just ridding the garden of these 2 mammoth plants has effectively doubled our garden size. Go me. Whilst I was swearing, heaving and hoeing in the garden today I found along with an unfortunate ear worm (Laughing gnome by David Bowie) that I was repeating, “I’d rather be in the caravan, I’d rather be in the caravan” and looking on social media this evening, it appears we are the only people in the world that are not away in...

The ultimate caravan jockey wheel

The ultimate caravan jockey wheel

Its April and its seven months since we collected our new caravan. One of the few niggles I have with the caravan is its terrible Jockey wheel. The jockey wheel is a standard ALKO type made of a hard plastic and this became an issue when we manoeuvred the caravan at a recent trip away at Lincoln Farm Park. The wheel would not turn when we moved the caravan with the motor mover, and just kept digging into the pitch. This meant I had to keep lifting the front of the caravan onto the soft gravel that was in front of the caravan, while Angela shuffled her feet to reposition the gravel and remove...

Caravan, camping and motorhome show

Caravan, camping and motorhome show

So how was it for you? I am of course, referring to the caravan, camping and motorhome show. It was from the outset a very popular show with an increase in footfall and popularity. For me however, it felt kind of strange. I feel completely disconnected from the show, and this is 100% down to me. I did attend the show and I did film lots. But, my filming schedule was for paid work so no content would be coming out on our channel. I am completely fine with this. I thought having a break from filming would help other channels really flourish and share their own experiences of the show. And I...

TourerFest 2019

Hi everyone, Its Jules from Here We Tow writing a guest blog and i’m delighted to announce the details of TourerFest 2019. It has been a journey since last May 2018 from Anita’s touring park. We have felt that the time is right to announce the efforts so far from Iain, Andy, and Jon, but first lets bring you up to speed with what we have done just to get to this point. To keep this brief we have been in contact with several companies and secured some potential sponsors for this years event. I think it would be unfair at this stage to name these as we are still trying to sort out what...

Amazon influencers

It has been some time since I sat quietly in the office, just typing some words on the computer in the hope that the words make sentences and make sense. So far, so good. I hope. A couple of weeks ago Amazon sent me an email asking if I would like to join their influencer program. I quickly clicked read and moved on to more important emails, but in a moment of calm, I re-read the email and investigated the scheme they have now set up in the UK. The program gives us a storefront on-which we can list and group products that we want to promote. I thought about this idea and after a couple of...

Love2Stay

It was sometime earlier this year that I started to see a lot of positive reviews of Love2Stay. It was always a place I wanted to visit and, this year it seemed the time was right for us to visit this new offering For those that are unsure of what Love2Stay is, it’s a new affiliate club site (Caravan and Motorhome Club) and has been constructed by the team that run Salop Leisure. The site offers a high specification of facilities, some onsite activities and fully serviced pitches for all who visit the site. We booked our trip for the beginning of August to coincide with our 21st Wedding...
