The Spring clean

I mentioned in a previous post that we have 2 cleaning regimes , one for when we arrive and the front of the van / windows are dirty from road spray. And another “deep clean” when the van is held back in storage. When I first researched the whole concept of cleaning the outside – lots of owners offered many different opinions on how to get the best results and which products to use. Our van is located on a storage facility, so there is no option for hoses, jet washes or mains hook up. So all the equipment we use we bring along to the storage facility. What do we use Hardware 2 x 10 Litre...

Garlic Chicken kebabs.

Every now and then we enjoy making these kebabs as another family favourite. We serve these kebabs with finely sliced red onion, tomatoes and lettuce. A garlic mayo and sweet chilli sauce really make these simple kebabs a perfect meal. These are so versatile that they can be cooked either on the BBQ or on rainy day they work just as well being cooked on the hob.   What you will need. 4 large chicken breasts 2 cloves garlic Olive oil 1 Lemon Salt Pepper 3 teaspoons Rosemary – (Dried is fine) Preparation. Dice the chicken into 2 cm cubes. You can make these bigger if you want to...

Aqua roll adaptor pipe.

Aqua roll adaptor pipe.

I’m sure I’m not the only teen who is in charge of the water runs. I wonder if anyone else has encountered the issue with some of the water taps ? Some taps I find it very hard to get the nozzle on for the pipe to fill the Aqua roll. So here is my solution.       I have fitted a hose connection at one end and made sure I have tap adaptors with it too. This way I can screw onto any tap that has a thread. If the tap already has a hozelock type tap – my connector will just click on. And finally if the tap has a smooth end – I kept the rubber fitting on the other end of the pipe....

Breakaway cable replacement

Having an intact, undamaged breakaway cable is a legal requirement in the UK. If you demonstrate to the authorities that your cable is in less than tip-top condition you might be liable for a fine and points on your license. Changing a breakaway cable is neither hard nor does it take long to do. So here are some simple instructions on how to swap over your cable.   There are many replacement breakaway cables on the market and as I have found with varying methods on how to attach them to your caravan. Lets go through the differences before we attach the new cable.   Ring end. Very...

Golden Syrup cup cake

Here is a perfect little recipe for a quick pudding. An internet sensation of mug cakes has revealed this little delight. We pre measure the dry ingredients into a zip lock bag and mix when on site. Just a word of warning – you will need a microwave and please make sure your cups are microwave safe – so no plastic or tin mugs. Also the mugs will be super hot so please make sure no children handle them when removing from the microwave.   Ingredients 1 large free-range egg, beaten 8 tablespoons self-raising flour 4 tablespoons sugar 4 tablespoons rapeseed/vegetable oil or melted butter 2...

I want to ride my bicycle

In preparation for the times away this year – we have done the unimaginable. We have purchased a collection of Mountain & Hybrid bikes for us all to ride and enjoy our times away. Quite possibly the most expensive thing on the list to purchase was the roof rack, not only do you need to buy the bars, but the feet pack that is designed for your car, but then the carriers themselves. And no one could tell me if I could get 4 bikes on the roof of our 4×4. So £500 of that was just to bolt them on the car – and no locks either !! As it turned out – yes no problem. We managed to get the...

Recipe ideas..

It’s a bit of a paradox really. I want to be able to go away and have great food, yet I don’t really want to take the entire kitchen with me to create a superb meal. I’ve recently read a book that is aimed at those who are cooking while in their Caravan. The list of equipment and store cupboard items are quite staggering! If you take the contents of the kitchen, where exactly are we going to pack the boules or swingball ? I’m penning down and creating some of the recipes that we enjoy when we are away and obviously testing them on how easy they are to create while in the caravan. It strikes...
