Winter checks

Like many other caravan owners, we simply cannot keep our van outside our house. We’d love to, but there is simply no room to put it on the drive. So our caravan is sited at a local caravan storage facility. This means that the caravan is not easily overlooked. It means we cannot simply throw open the curtains and ensure everything is OK. So we visit the caravan at least once a week to make sure that everything is in tip top condition. Our checks on the van are quite basic. They range from a visual inspection of the body work, checking the electrics, a quick damp check and generally ensuring...

Fixing a Thetford C250 Cassette indicator

Posted by on Aug 3, 2015 in Technical | 0 comments

We recently returned from a short break away in Somerset when I discovered to my misfortune that the “tank full” light doesn’t actually work on our toilet. Assuming that the tank really wasn’t that full was to prove my misfortune. Our toilet is the Thetford C250 cassette type. Its common culprit is a dislodged magnet from inside the toilet cassette. – I located a fridge magnet and attempted to track the fault down. I recorded the fault finding and the eventual fix of the indicator LED – this has been quite a popular video on YouTube so far, So I hope you find the video of some use. The...

The Clean regeme.

Back in March I wrote on how we keep our caravan clean. Well I had literally a couple of emails asking for more information. So, not content with writing lots of words – I created a video on how we clean, what we use and how the results turn out. This cleaning regime is only for the outside. Inside is a completely different beast. Anyway here is the...

Dash Cam – Part 3

The camera is installed, the cable is tidy, now to configure and test the camera. Set up is easy. Using the 4 buttons on the back you can access the menu and set the date and time, configure and play with some settings. Its not worth me going through the options as there are plenty of unboxing and set up reviews on YouTube. However here is some of the features I have set on my installation. Resolution – 1080p Motion Detector – Off G Sensor – Off Exposure – +/- 0 (this may change !) Loop Time – 5Mins Beep – Off (no annoying startup or shut down sound) Screen Protection – 3 mins Sound –...

Dash Cam – Part 2

After reviewing which model to use, in fact it ended up being one of the cheapest cameras on the market. The G1WH (The WH is important – it provides a wider view.) is available from Amazon (Click here) at about £35, or £45 with a suitable 32Gb memory card. Although this camera has many of the features I was not looking for, at the price you simply cannot go wrong. The biggest issue I have with the idea of dash cam is installing it so no wires, leads or plugs are in the cabin. I hate a messy dashboard, so with that its important to consider : The car is a BMW X5, which means – The cigar is...

Dash Cam – Part 1

I’m pretty sure that if you have visited YouTube lately viewed your Facebook timeline you would have no doubt seen the viral sensation of Russian Dash Cams. A Dash Cam a camera that is mounted to your screen or dashboard and it records your journey as your drive. And some of the near misses, crashes and random events that are captured are staggering. Why would you need such a device ? Trust me it’s not just a gimmick. There is a good reason why you should have one. You are well aware that you are liable if you hit someone else’s car from behind, you are at fault. But what if they didn’t...
