Once every now and again you have a break that really means something. It really resonates with you. Well for us, and especially for me our Trip to North Wales was that holiday.
We decided to stay at Coed-Y-Llwyn on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. It’s a small Caravan club site about 10 miles away from Porthmadog. Its really peaceful and a real gem of a site.
Our trip up however wasn’t peaceful, nor was it quick. It took us 7 hours to get to the site. This was in part due to the Bank holiday traffic and road works along the route. However once arrived, set up and settled our first bottle or red wine confirmed we had arrived.
What made our trip so fantastic was not planning much until we arrived. Once there we planned a trip to Portmarion, The Electric Mountain, a trip on the Ffestiniog railway and also we were determined to get out on our bikes and enjoy our surroundings.
We did all of this plus an awful lot more. Each evening was a BBQ, each day was a new adventure.
Possibly the best part of the holiday was taking the family to the quayside in Portmadog and participating in a spot of crabbing. The family had never done this before, and this was a real hoot. The art of not just catching but also landing the crabs was extremely competitive. Tom won.
Possibly the 2nd best part of this trip was our 11mile bike ride through the Snowdonia national park, it was stunning. And below is some footage of our bike ride.
The weather only broke once, with 1 downpour – but when in Wales you must expect such things, we were exceptionally lucky.
We already have been planning to go back and visit Snowdon itself. This time with pre-booked tickets to go up the mountain.
Once back, unpacked and wishing to go back I surprised the family by creating a special memento of our holiday. I used the Photos Application on my Mac to create a photobook. I added some commentary to it and once the family were all a bit low, I showcased the book and we had another mini adventure remembering all the things we did.
