Caravan Cleaning with Mellerud

Cleaning the caravan. You either love it or hate it. For me it’s a great time to unwind, care for the caravan and get it ready for the next adventure. In general, I find it quite cathartic. One thing I do not enjoy however is those pesky black streaks. They are every caravanners worst nightmare. The black streaks are formed from the rubber seals around windows, roof lights and other seals around the exterior of the caravan. As sunlight degrades the very top layer of rubber (exactly what its supposed to do, otherwise it will crack and perish) it creates a loose layer of material that can be...

The YouTube bubble

Let me start by stating I love YouTube. I use it on a daily basis. It gives me entertainment, it provides me knowledge and perspective. As a content creator, it provides a place to output my ramblings and share my thoughts. I really do love YouTube. But, don’t be fooled. Once you are in the YouTube bubble, it consumes you. It envelops you. It encourages you to watch another kitten montage, more Russian dash cams and “in the moment” trends of challenges that people feel compelled to share with the world. We recently recorded a checklist video to show some of the things you should consider when you don’t use the van for some time. We cover the exterior, interior, the water system, gas and electrics – plus some other areas too. Here is our winterisation video...

2016. Wet & miserable.

And so here we are. Half way through the first month of 2016. Last year promised so much. Our first year of active holiday making, journeys and adventures in our new caravan. Sadly mid way through the year things didn’t quite turn out that way. With the loss of a dear friend, much loved one and never recovering from that or a £3,000 car bill holidays were cut short in July. We did manage a couple of outings later in the year, but to be completely fair our heart, our passion wasn’t really in it. 2016 however promises to be our time to start again. WE ARE / WE HAVE planned on 9 epic holidays...

Too cold to camp ?

The first trip of 2015. and we are spending a cold January away in the Forest of Dean. Based in Bracelands its an incredible -6 degrees outside. and we are all toasty warm. So what precautions have we taken to ensure a trouble free get away ? In actual fact we have done very little, but some preparation before and after the trip is essential. The biggest issue is the water supply to the van. Pretty much everything else has operated exactly as it does when we are out in warmer weather. but do take these precautions when When not in use. Ensure the water tank (if you have one) is empty. Frozen...
